How to Measure Your Feet
For the most accurate fit, measure your feet at home:
- Best time to measure: Late afternoon or evening when feet are at their largest
- Wear appropriate socks: Use the thickness of socks you'll wear with the boots
- Stand on a flat surface: Place a piece of paper against a wall
- Mark your longest toe: Stand with heel against wall, mark where longest toe ends
- Measure the distance: From wall to toe mark in centimeters
- Measure both feet: Use the larger measurement if they differ
Boot-Specific Sizing Tips
Military & Combat Boots
- Fit: Should be snug but not tight - you need room for thick socks
- Toe room: About 1cm (thumb width) between longest toe and boot front
- Width: Military boots are typically designed for standard to wide feet
- Breaking in: Expect 1-2 weeks of break-in time for leather boots
Hiking & Outdoor Boots
- Size up: Often need 0.5-1 size larger than regular shoes
- Downhill room: Extra toe room prevents blackened toenails on descents
- Sock consideration: Account for thick hiking socks
- Ankle movement: Should allow natural ankle flex without restriction
Winter Boots
- Insulation space: Need room for insulation to work effectively
- Thick socks: Size for wool or synthetic winter socks
- Circulation: Too tight restricts blood flow and makes feet colder
- Easy on/off: Should slip on easily with winter gloves
Fit Check Guidelines
A properly fitted boot should:
- ✅ Allow wiggling of all toes
- ✅ Feel snug around heel and instep
- ✅ Not pinch or create pressure points
- ✅ Have about 1cm space between longest toe and front
- ✅ Allow normal ankle movement
Warning signs of poor fit:
- ❌ Toes touching the front
- ❌ Heel slipping when walking
- ❌ Pinching on sides or top
- ❌ Numbness or tingling
- ❌ Cannot lace properly
Special Considerations
Wide or Narrow Feet
Most military surplus boots are designed for standard width feet. If you have particularly wide or narrow feet, consider:
- Contacting us before ordering for specific width recommendations
- Looking for boots with adjustable lacing systems
- Considering aftermarket insoles for better fit
High Instep or Arch
Some boots may feel tight across the top of the foot. Look for:
- Boots with speed lacing or multiple lacing points
- Adjustable tongue systems
- Consider sizing up if the instep is the only tight area
